Your First Thai Massage: What to Expect

Never had a Thai massage, or not sure whether to pick Thai, oil or aromatherapy? Here is the whole experience from walking in to walking out, plus a comparison of every option on our menu.

How a session goes

You can just walk in without an appointment. You pick a service and duration, get a foot wash, and then it depends what you chose: for Thai or herbal compress massage you change into loose, comfortable clothes we provide; for oil massage you get a private room and towels and undress to your comfort level; for foot or head-neck-shoulder massage you stay exactly as you are.

Before starting, the therapist asks how firm you like it (light, medium or strong) and where you are sore. Say it plainly, and speak up mid-session too if anything is too hard or too soft. The therapist would much rather adjust than have you grit your teeth. Afterwards there is tea, and no rush to leave.

Etiquette and tipping

Arriving five to ten minutes early is plenty. Skip the heavy meal right before, and always mention medical conditions, pregnancy, or a recent injury to our staff so the therapist can adapt.

Tipping in Thailand is optional; the listed price is the full price. If you were happy, 50-100 THB handed to your therapist is the usual way to say so.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Thai massage hurt?

Real Thai massage mixes pressure-point work and stretching, so tight spots can feel intense, the good kind of ache. It should never make you tense up or hold your breath. Say "bao bao" (gently) any time. For a first visit, start at medium pressure and adjust from there.

What should I wear or bring?

Anything you like, and you do not need to bring a thing. Massage clothes and everything else are provided at the shop.

Is massage safe for everyone?

Most people, comfortably. But tell our staff first if you are pregnant, have a heart condition or uncontrolled high blood pressure, recent surgery, severe osteoporosis, or a fever. Sometimes the therapist adapts the technique; sometimes the right answer is to check with a doctor first.

Is one hour enough, or should I book two?

For a first visit, one hour is right, enough to know what you like. If the aches have been building for months or you want the full body done unhurried, two hours costs less per hour and feels far less rushed.
